Nestled along thirty miles of the San Pedro River, the folks who make up the desert community of Cascabel all came for different reasons, but they found they had much in common in relation to a desire to work together for the common good. With four different conservation organizations (see http://cascabelconservation.org/, http://www.cascabelworkinggroup.org/inddex.html), and http://www.saguaro-juniper.com/), a community garden (http://cascabelconservation.org/baicatcan-garden/garden-blog/), a local community supported (CSA) farm (http://sleepingfrogfarms.com/), a community center where numerous meetings and social events are held throughout the year (http://cascabel.org/), and a listserve that keeps community members informed, Cascabel is a community of people working together to support its people and protect its environment.

Contact: Sonia and Nils Behn 1-802-496-2192 Time is of the essence Posted 5/12/2013 Well, have you heard; we’ve just reach a new high of 400 ppm of carbon dioxide. Unless huge swaths of good arable land is made available to people (soon) to begin creating large, mostly self sufficient cooperative communities AND people would actually want to do this, it appears our collective gooses are cooked.
What else would (actually) change the present paradigm? Sharing, cooperating and being very close together is much less energy consumptive. Homesteads are too far apart, the cities are too far from essential natural resources. Nothing wrong with trade and barter, but why not relegate that to locally rare or specialty items?
And the added benefit would be we’d be happier and healthier. Looking for individuals or families who value health, sustainability, and independence. We're far enough out in the country to see the stars and build an agricultural life, and close enough in to the DC Metro Area to benefit from the strong economy, maintain good jobs, live in an educated, (relatively) progressive area, and enjoy an opera at the Kennedy Center now and then! Community features planned over the next year include a Waldorf-inspired cooperative school, tool workshop, organic vegetable and flower gardens, chickens, bees, goats, swimming pool, and cabins/yurts for interns or long-term guests. We wish to cultivate diversity in all ways including intellectual and experiential, and are open to people of all backgrounds and interests. We range in age from 5 years to 63 years, and tend to be liberal, vegetarian, artistic, financially responsible, socially alert, optimistic, easy-going, agnostic. Participation options are pretty open, and include extended visits ($300/month plus 15 hours/wk work exchange) and residencies ($5,000 for a 5-year land lease or $15,000+ for permanent ownership). We can offer practical assistance in building a dwelling and finding work in the area if necessary, and possibly help with financing depending on all kinds of things. We look forward to hearing from you! Email is best, and/or you can check out our website for plenty of outdated, shot-in-the-dark information. :) $55K – Round off-grid vaulted ceiling home with mountain views (Columbus, NM) Posted 5/8/2013 Updated 5/12/2013 YOU ARE ALMOST HOME!

In search of a simple life in a warm climate Posted 4/14/2013 Updated 4/15/2013 My vision is to form an Intentional Community with the following aspirations.
1. Escape the "Rat Race", miserable weather and in as far as possible over bearing rules and regulations.
2. Live a simple low cost life aiming to minimize utility bills.
3. Aim to be self sufficient by producing our own food and energy.
4. Live as part of a small fishing village and succumb to their philosophy,"No Stress"
I am looking for a small number of like minded people to explore with me, the possibility of delivering my vision. In 2007 I bought a suitable piece of land on the island of Santiago in the Cape Verde islands. I am willing to explore all ideas, but my vision would entail the building of a group of low cost independent dwellings arranged around a common piece of food producing land.
Living cost would be low but in order for the community to be sustainable, some independent means would be advantageous. We could also explore the possibility of income producing initiatives for the members if needed. Some examples would include,
Tourist services such as hiking guides or tour operators.
The provision of fishing and diving trips.
Craft or jewellery production.
Internet or web based businesses.
Writing in all it,s forms.
Light manufacturing.
Horticulture.
Capital requirement starts at 25,000 Euro and at this entry level would cover the cost of a one bed dwelling with access to shared food production land.Joint ownership is a possibility to reduce capital outlay. Everything can be discussed and explored. Posted 3/21/2013 This book describes the necessary growth rate African countries should imperatively target to boost the developing process.
Over 19 chapters of concise and precise wording the author provides useful information (on how other nations vanquished poverty), made practical investment's suggestions and financing research solutions/alternatives, debunked initiatives crippling/misleading false economic doctrines and dogma, to devising an Integrated Development Scheme, that, if well implemented, would yield double-digit growth rates, year in year out for lengthy periods of 10, 20, 30 years and more.
This is not utopia. Indeed, a performance scenario applied to a Least Developed African country shows the economy sky rocketing and yielding average annual growth rate of 21% (twenty one percent) over a ten-year period.
The book provides score of useful information and made practical investment/financing suggestions on how the country could maintain the double-digit growth rate path over 20, 30 years and more - using "economic development catalyst investments" to strengthen the inter relation between agricultural sector, industries and services.
The book demonstrates there is no reason African countries would perpetually remain in the league of the wretches of the world. sustainable living property Posted 3/18/2013 Updated 3/19/2013 Available 4 acres of sandy loam, some fenced, Property has 9 bedrooms three living spaces, wood stoves. Long-Term Off-Grid Solutions Posted 2/28/2013 Updated 5/1/2013 Human-powered machines for long-term, off-grid sustainability. Our most recent achievement, the WaterBuck Pump, is a hand pump unlike any other, built for shallow or deep water wells with a capacity up to 30 gallons/minute. It can also pump water from ponds or rivers. The prototype operates a 4-inch windmill pump system at an 80-foot static water level. Neighbors age 8 to 63 tested the machine. Most impressive was an arthritic 63-year-old grandma with tendonitis who pumped 5 gallons in 1 minute. Her daughter pumped 10 gpm. Taking turns, my wife and I filled a 55-gallon barrel in 10 minutes. It can easily supply water for household bathing, laundry, irrigating gardens and watering livestock, etc. Our other machine, the pedal-powered PTO, can grind grain, charge batteries, and run belt- or chain-driven devices. For long-term emergencies or living off-grid, we offer 3 sizes of well buckets ($69-$79) for retrieving water from bored wells without electricity. Learning from experience, we made the mistake of continuing to rely on micro-grid technology such as wind and solar systems, and found they have no protection from electronic failure, are useless during ice storms and are more easily damaged by flying debris in wind storms. That’s why I got busy designing and building a high-capacity, heavy-duty hand pump and other human-powered tools. We hope our products can benefit your community. To see videos of our products in use, visit our new site, www.waterbuckpump.com. In this book, discover the first new major government system to be developed in centuries, a form of government that also functions as its own think tank.
This book was many years in the making. Some lyrics in the song “Revolution” by the Beatles can be interpreted to mean that any revolution without a new plan is pointless. This interpretation challenged FitzMaurice to create a new and better plan for governments. The result he calls “Ocean Government”. The excuses end now. For the right method to use to cause a revolution, visit http://www.aeinstein.org/. For the right method to use to rule after the revolution, use this book.
Ocean Government is advantageous for governing countries, corporations, colleges, communes, co-operatives, clubs, churches, temples, institutions, schools, and organizations of any kind. Ocean Government will work for Communist States, Democracies, Dictatorships, Monarchies, Noocracies, Oligarchies, Presidential Republics, Parliamentary Republics, Socialist Republics, Theocracies, or any form of government. It is simple to set up and easy to continue. There is every reason to switch to the Ocean Government system, and no reason not to give up antiquated systems of government. This book gives you all the tools and knowledge you need to institute the superior Ocean Government form of government today. The only financial cost to you is the cost of this book.
